The Prayer Yeshua Prayed Twice Every Day

One of Jesus’s earliest memories was no doubt watching and listening to his family when they gathered to pray the Shema at sunrise before the day’s work began and after the working work day was over at sunset . He also heard and participated in praying the Shema at their synagogue. He was surrounded by neighbors who also prayed the same prayer in their homes every day. The Hebrew word for prayer is tefilah . It is derived from the root Pe-Lamed-Lamed and the word l'hitpalel, meaning “ to judge oneself .” This surprising word origin provides insight into the purpose of Jewish prayer. The most important part of any Jewish prayer, whether it be a prayer of petition, of thanksgiving, of praise of God, or of confession, is the introspection it provides, the moment that we spend looking inside ourselves, seeing our role in the universe and our relationship to God. [1] Most of Jewish prayers are expressed in the first person plural, "us" instead of "me," an...

Why Are There Only Four Gospels in the New Testament?

In the earliest centuries of Christianity, many different writings were copied, shared and circulated among the different churches located throughout the Roman Empire, Syria, Asia, Egypt, and other place. Some recorded the life and sayings of Jesus, Paul’s writings to different churches, and writings by other apostles and church leaders. There were so many writings in circulation that some of church leaders became very concerned. Did Yeshua really say “jot”?

Yeshua said, “Not one jot shall pass from the law.” (King James Version) The above words are from Matthew 5:18. It is a good example of verses that people “religiously” without having a clue for what they just read means – and they will claim that the thing they are clueless about is the inerrant and infallible word of God! What is a “ jot ?” Let’s begin by making sure one thing clear is very clear – Yeshua never uttered the word “ jot .” It was the King James translators that came up with that. Here is what Yeshua said, “Not one Yod shall pass from the Torah .” “ Yod ” is the English transliteration of the Hebrew name of the 10th letter of the Hebrew alphabet (see below).  Next is a graphic that explains how the Hebrew word was transliterated into English. Follow the numbers from 1 to 3 beginning on the right. So, how did “ Yod ” become “ jot ”? The word " jot " itself comes from the name " iota , " which is the 9th letter of the...

Where Yeshua Walked and Taught

Yeshua lived with his parents in Nazareth , a Galilean village which was ruled by Antipas , one of Herod’s heirs. Samaria and Judaea were ruled by Archelaus , another Herod’s heir. Antipas was the ruler of Galilee for all of Yeshua’s life, except for the earliest period of his life when Herod ruled. SOURCE It is a strong possibility that virtually all of Yeshua’s activities related to his movement was carried out in Galilee , which would indicate that Antipas was probably aware of his activities. Yeshua was from the country and stayed away from the larger cities, which also had larger Gentile populations. The cities of Galilee – Sepphoris , Tiberias , and Scythopolis (Beth Shean) – do not figure into his activities. There is no doubt that he knew Sepphoris , which was only a few miles from Nazareth . SOURCE Yeshua apparently regarded his mission as being directed to the Jews in the villages and small towns of Galilee. Rural images are fairly frequent in his teac...
