  The Alliance is found in one verse of the Bible, Genesis 1:28. It literally cannot be seen in English translations, but the Hebrew version sets this Creation Story apart from all other creation stories. The Alliance is a contract, that God made with the first two subjects of His Kingdom – the man and woman . All future humans will become subjects of God’s Kingdom at birth .   In Genesis 1, “God blessed them” means that God empowered the humans to function the ways they had been created to function.   We would have never known anything about the Alliance Jesus referred to in the Parable About the Great Day of Judgment without the Guidelines and Linguistic Models we use to Explore the Bible.   In 90 CE, the Sanhedrin adds t he Birkat haMinim ("Blessing on the heretics") to synagogue services. It is a curse on heretics. The doors of synagogues are now closed to members of the Jesus Movement. The Pharisees had always controlled the new Sanhedrin. However, it is important to understand that there were sects within the Pharisees that ranged from being “doves” (men of peace) to “hawks” (men of war). Emperor Vespasian chose “a man of peace” to create the new Sanhedrin. But, in 90 CE it appears that the hawks had gained control.   The new Sanhedrin’s ruling delt a deadly blow to the relationship between Judaism and the Jesus Movement. The 90 CE Sanhedrin also created a new Jewish canon. It would be the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls that revealed something else this council or another council did. It excluded some very old and popular scrolls that were “scripture” in Jewish communities, and they were probably read frequently at the Temple.   Yochanan ben Zakkai converted his school to function as a re-establishment of the Sanhedrin in Yavneh. He was chosen to do this by Roman Emperor Vespasian because the Emperor had heard that he was “ a man of peace .” Zakkai was student of Hillel had been president of the Sanhedrin at the Temple and leader of the Pharisees. Hillel is one of the greatest rabbis of the Jewish tradition. The teachings of Jesus reflect many of the wisdom lessons taught by Hillel . As we will see as we follow the proceeding of the new Sanhedrin, Luke and Matthew shaped their Gospels in ways that would link the Jesus Movement to the school of Hillel.   The Gospel of Mark was written around 72 CE. Roman armies were wrapping up their operation in Judea. It had been two years since the Temple in Jerusalem had been destroyed. After Mark wrote his Gospel and before Luke wrote his, a very important event took place that isn’t mentioned in the New Testament . Johanan ben Zakkai was the youngest of all the learned disciples in the academy of Hillel. Before the Temple was destroyed, it became clear him that the Jews would lose to the Romans.   The destruction of the Jerusalem Temple created chaos in all Jewish communities! It was a primary reason the Gospel of Mark was written. Roman armies were still in the final stages of wrapping up the attacks in Judea in 72 CE when this Gospel was written.   I am sure that my previous email, ELOHIM Creates First Family. Yahweh Threatens to Destroy Humans , set off a lot of BS Alarms (“ BS ” means “ belief systems ”). It did in my brain the first time I saw the word “ ELOHIM ” in the First Story and “ Yahweh ELOHIM ” in the Second Story. There are specific reasons each name appears where it does in every sentence in the Torah .   When Jesus connected his “ Kingdom of God Movement ” to the “ Kingdom prepared from the foundation of world ” in Matthew 25, he revealed the standard that God used to judge all the nations of the earth.   There are many creation stories that are much older than the one in the Torah Scroll -- It is a very Sumerian, Assyrian, Babylonian, Egyptian, Persian, Canaanite, etc. None of them have a Creator like ELOHIM. Humans would not exist without ELOHIM. This pretty well sums up the relationship between ELOHIM and humans. This is a very different reality from what I was taught and what I preached.   “ Do not think that I intend to remove words from or add words to the Torah or the Prophets. I do not intend to misinterpret them! I intend to accurately quote and correctly interpret them. Amen!” Only a very skilled and confident Torah scholar would have made a statement like this. This is supported by his interactions with scribes and Pharisees.   As the Jesus Movement spread throughout the Roman Empire, there appears to have been a great deal of confusion among Gentiles about Jesus and his “Jewishness.” This is a story that is found in Genesis. However, after the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem in 70 CE, the meaning of the story was lost when Paul’s Movement became Christianity. Thanks to ancient scribes, a scientific approach to archaeology, and powerful computer technologies, clues began to appear in Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke that linked the teachings of Jesus to the story in Genesis.   Make sure you note that Jesus linked “ eating to forgiveness .” His point was “eating is a basic requirement for the body to survive and forgiveness is a basic requirement for the Kingdom of God to survive! God’s forgiveness, however extensive, only encompasses those offenses which man commits directly against Him. Those in which injury is caused to one’s fellow man are not forgiven by God until the injured party has himself forgiven the perpetrator.   The next line of this prayer is: “ May Your will be done on earth as above the Sky. ” The phrases “ Your Kingdom ” and “ Your will ” are two parts of the same idea – His Kingdom is governed by His will .   The scribes of the Temple in Jerusalem were sources of the Wisdom of the Creator of the Skies, the Earth, and Life . It is impossible for a person to obtain an understanding of one’s place in the design and purpose of living without a humble approach to the Creator. The place the Creator designed for each person is called, “ FAMILY ” – a father, a mother, and a child . In our world, “family” seems to begin with a very simple need — a sexual attraction .   The meaning of the word “ God ” is something I never would have questioned in the church I attended with my family and friends until I graduated from high school. Of course, I would have never questioned the meaning of “ Heaven ,” either. I was taught that “Heaven” was “the place people go when they die.” Back then, if someone had told me that in Genesis 1:1 -- “Heaven is a solid dome-like structure located beneath the surface of deep water, and the earth is inside it!” – I would have thought the person was crazy!!!   The first ten chapters of the Book of Genesis was originally an Ancient Temple Scroll. It was written for descendants of exiles from Judah who were still living in Babylon, and for those who had returned to Jerusalem to work on building the new Temple.   I have written a lot about Biblical Heritages, but I have not written anything about the Biblical Heritage Center, Inc. in a long time. I wrote “ Through Their Eyes . . .   If I had just only been reading and studying English translations of the Bible, I would have never seen what the ancient readers of the Hebrew text saw. Just as if you were able to communicate with those ancient readers and told them about astronomy , individualism , and human rights – they wouldn’t understand anything you said! I am pretty sure 21 st century American meanings of temple, kingdom, and Creator are not the same as those of ancient readers. It is not the name of the man in “ The Garden of Eden Story .” ADAM is made “ in the image of God. ” Today, the phrase “ image of god ” is not part of our everyday language.
