  Today, I am introducing a second way of Exploring the Bible. It is designed to help modern readers “immediately find time-tested wisdom embedded in ancient text, “ The Wisdom of the Beginnings .” The first story in Genesis introduces the “Alliance the Creator made with all Families on the Earth. The last story (Genesis 6-10) contains the “Creator’s Covenant the Creator made with Noah.” The way of exploring “puts modern readers in the sandals of the ancient readers – acquiring wisdom they can immediately use in their lives.   When Ezra arrived in Jerusalem with the First Torah Scroll in Judah, he was accompanied by a body of 120 elders, judges, prophets, sages, teachers, and scribes . They had been members of the very large Jewish community in Babylon that was founded by the captives who had been taken there in 586 BCE by the Babylonian armies that destroyed the previous Temple. This story has been lost for almost 2000 years, but it is essential for understand the words the scribes wrote on the Torah scroll.   This a difficult concept for many American Christians to grasp. However, in order to understand the movement Jesus led, we must think about the things that he did. His parents took him to the Temple in Jerusalem every Passover because he was circumcised and named when he was eight days old. That day he became a son of the covenant Yahweh made with Abraham and his descendants. If that hadn’t been done, he would not have been allowed to enter specific areas of the Temple.   Yahweh Elohim planted every tree in the Garden, formed the humans and formed the serpent. Everything in the Garden is there because of Yahweh Elohim. Yahweh Elohim gave the command to the humans about not eating from the Tree of the Knowledge of Tov (good) and Ra (evil) before the serpent existed .   According to the text the man needs a “ help meet .” Notice the text does not say that he needs “ a helper .” Not someone to “boss around!” The Hebrew word means, “ one that corresponds to, a counterpart of, equal to, and matching .” This matches what we learned about ADAM #1 – “ the male and female are equals in the eyes of Elohim .” Male and female are equal partners!   Americans are living in a culture and economy that highly values and markets “ individual pleasure ” and “ instant gratification ” as top priorities. The unintended and deadly side effects of this are constant anxiety, isolation, loneliness, indifference to others and increased violence . As isolation increases, self-rejection increases; as self-rejection increases, isolation increases. This is a toxic and potentially deadly mix.   The Hebrew word “ ADAM ” reveals there are two kinds of humans: “ male and female .” In order to have an ADAM , there must be “ one male and one female bound together by the Alliance and Covenant ” in Genesis 1-10.   The language of Jesus was the Hebrew language in the scroll Ezra carried to Jerusalem in 458 BCE. The scribal schools at the Temple in Jerusalem were around until 70 CE when the Romans destroyed the Temple. And soon after that this form of Hebrew was lost to the followers of Jesus.
